You must be strong, dear brothers and sisters. You must be strong with the strength that comes from faith. You must be strong with the strength of faith. You must be faithful. Today, more than in any other age, you need this strength. You must be strong with the strength of hope, the hope that brings perfect joy in life and which prevents us from ever grieving the Holy Spirit! You must be strong with love, the love which is stronger than death. You must be strong with the strength of faith, hope and charity, a charity that is conscious, mature and responsible, and which can help us at this moment of our history to carry on the great dialogue with man and the world, a dialogue rooted in dialogue with God himself, with the Father, through the Son in the Holy Spirit, the dialogue of salvation." Blessed John Paul II, 10 June 1979 A.D.

In 2012, the Diocese will host the 35th annual Diocesan Youth Conference! Plans are already underway to mark and remember this milestone for the Diocese. One special feature will be the challenge for each parish to identify and send two (2) youth delegates to the 2012 DYC to participate in an historic adventure, a convention within the conference, which will help determine the direction of youth ministry in the Diocese for years to come. Youth delegates will participate in a process which will identify, prioritize and strategize for the various strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats which face the young Church of western North Carolina. Stay tuned. Information will be added here as it develops!

Adults interested in volunteering to assist with the Youth Synod are encouraged to contact the Office for Youth Ministry.

DYC is:

  • Annual Diocesan Event
  • For High School Youth
  • Hundreds of youth and adults from around the Diocese attend each year
  • 2011 will mark the 34th annual Diocesan Youth Conference!

DYC brings together high school youth from around the Diocese for a theme-centered weekend of workshops, led by youth and adults alike, keynote speakers, entertainment, daily Mass, Adoration of Our Eucharistic Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, and Confession, all time to grow in the Catholic faith.

The workshops address a variety of issues, from moral decision making, Theology of the Body, virtues education, prayer, maintaining faith going off to college and everything in between.

Many past retreatants have expressed great enthusiasm for this conference because they enjoy being around other people their age who are also Catholics and because it gives them an opportunity to develop their faith.
